Cyber Security Awareness Month: Stay safe

As we step into the month of October, we embark into the Cyber Security Awareness Month to reinforce our commitment to Cyber Security and to work collectively in a safer digital environment.

In today's interconnected world with emerging technologies, Cyber Security goes beyond IT’s responsibility: it is everyone’s concern. 

It is thus crucial to understand that cyber threats are getting increasingly complex and sophisticated. Attackers are taking advantage of any vulnerability to initiate attacks which pose significant risks to our personal and professional lives. 

During the Cyber Security Awareness Month, BIRGER. strongly recommends you reinforce your understanding of Cyber Security, increase your vigilance while navigating the evolving digital landscape and to take proactive measures to secure your digital assets. 

To protect your organisation and employees, BIRGER. recommends the following measures:

1. Raise Awareness: Consider continuous awareness and training at all levels of your organisation. 
2. Protect your infrastructure: Make sure that your IT and Network Infrastructure are hardened, implement Zero Trust architectures and ensure all your endpoints are updated on a regular basis to include the latest patches. 
3. Secure all remote accesses: Use Virtual Private Networks (VPN) with encryption in place and avoid using unsecured public WiFi to connect to your corporate network. 
4. Implement Access policies: Use two or multi-factor authentication and Privilege Access Management (PAM). Stringent identification management policies should be introduced, monitored and reviewed whereby selective access is granted on a case by case basis. 
5. Prevent Data Loss: Deploy Data Loss Prevention (DLP) tools, encryption and strong policies which will prevent transfer of unauthorised files, restrict confidential data transfers and monitor real-time sharing of all information. 
6. Continuous monitoring: IT Infrastructure, network and end-points to be continuously monitored for cyber security incidents, with management of all events to be carried out by your trusted Security Operation Centre (SOC) on a 24/7 basis. 
7. Business Continuity Management (BCMS) processes: Business Continuity processes should remain in place to ensue recovery in the event of a cyber-incident. 
8. Document and Report: Adhere to Data Protection principles to protect private and confidential work-related information. Any loss of data is to be reported immediately to minimise any breach and/or fraud.
