BIRGER. SUMM’IT 2017 : Press Release
BIRGER. is organising the second edition of SUMM’IT between the 28th and 30th November, following the success of its first edition in 2016. SUMM’IT 2017 is a three-day event exploring the theme of “Data at the Heart of your Business”. A host of C-level Executives, IT Heads, Security Heads as well as IT and Security Practitioners is expected to participate in the three day programme.
SUMM’IT 2017 will kick off on Tuesday 28th of November with the inauguration of ContinuityMauritius’ Recovery Centre at Phoenix. This new recovery centre, which forms part of BIRGER.’s Technology Operation Centre at Phoenix, covers 700 square meters. It comprises of 500 square meters of Work Area Recovery, 120 square meters of Datacentre and technical facilities as well as 80 square meters of office space. The key note speaker, Mr Michael Davies, Chief Executive Officer of Continuity SouthAfrica and non-executive Director of ContinuityMauritius, will elaborate on “Why Resilience and Business Continuity is so important to your Business”.
On Wednesday 29th November the theme of “Data at the Heart of your Business” will be explored with keynotes, panel discussions and debates. The first half of the day will be under the aegis of IBM, covering new technologies that IBM offers with the view to manage and exploit data within a business. Experts from IBM namely Kenneth Habson IBM Cloud Platform & Analytics Business Unit Leader for MEA and Toni Mancini Business Unit Executive Competitive Databases will address participants on the following topics: Journey to Hybrid Data Management, Data Analytics, IBM DB2 & Appliances and IBM’s Centre of Excellence & Data Science Experience.
After lunch, Daryl Rivet, Symantec Territory Manager English Speaking Africa, will drill down into the implications of the General Data Protection Regulation or GDPR, the EU legislation coming into force on 25th May 2018. Non-compliance to GDPR will have adverse consequences, in the form of penalties and fines, on all organisations dealing directly or indirectly with the data of European citizens.
The last part of the afternoon will be dedicated to the results of the Cyber Security Survey commissioned by BIRGER to DCDM Research, which was carried out during the second semester of 2017 in the Indian Ocean Islands and East Africa. Mr Jean Vincent Staub, Chief Executive Officer of DCDM Research, will present their findings.
Parwez Bhugalee, Executive-Marketing and Business Development at BIRGER., will unveil BIRGER.’s Cyber Security Index (BIRGER. CYIndex), which measures the respondents’ Cyber Security posture.
Thursday 30th November will be an open day to support the International Computer Security Day whereby participants will be able to have one on one discussion with experts from both BIRGER. and its partners attending SUMM’IT 2017.
A tour of BIRGER.’s Technology Operation Centre at Phoenix covering 2,400 square meters will be on the agenda, including the Network Operation Centre, Cyber Defence Centre, Work Area Recovery Centre and Data Centre.
Participants will also be able to rediscover on the exhibition floor banking solutions successfully displayed during SUMM’IT 2016 showcasing self service solutions from its partner NCR as well as secured transactions solutions from its partner Entrust Datacard.
Finally, for those participants willing to go down memory lane, BIRGER.’s museum will also be open on that occasion.
